The example shown above is a typical cross section, with four pavement layers.   In this example, additional lines have been drawn illustrating the existing pavement and existing topsoil to be removed.

These additional lines can be drawn automatically using criteria.   Several files are required:

  1. Prxs_m10.inp (Found on the server under F:\Resource\Geopak\Inp)
  2. A 2D file with lines or line strings that represent the existing edge of pavement, (usually the .plm file)
  3. A 2D file containing the shapes.
  4. A 2D file containing the pattern lines
  5. Criteria files for inclusion. Only "include" the following files:
    1. defaults.x10
    2. except_m.xdt (on english projects this would be except_e.xdt)
    3. fhex_fea.x10
  6. The XS file for drawing the lines representing the bottom and outside edges of existing pavement and the bottom of the existing topsoil.

Within the Prxs_m10.inp file is a define statement that reads, "maximum existing road with" and a value.  This tells the software how far apart to search for the elements that represent the existing edge of pavement.   This is necessary for situations where frontage roads are also present in the file. An example of the user defined variables are shown below:

As shown above... a rock layer may also be drawn if desired.

NOTE: "Excavation Limits" must be present in the XS file for the quantities to be calculated by the earthwork input file.   The topsoil will be excavated (and backfilled in embankment areas) up to the Excavation Limits lines.
