Special Project: Going-to-the-Sun Road Rehabilitation IDIQNOTICE: (Updated as of 9/26/2006)The solicitation for this contract is scheduled to be issued in Winter 2006 with proposals due in early 2007. We issued pre-advertisement information on the first project, Phase VI Haystack Creek (Mile 23.61 to 27.2) on Sept 19 2006. The anticipated magnitude of the first project is $15 to $20 million. The prime contractor will also be responsible for ensuring stone material is quarried, shaped, and delivered for the construction projects to be awarded under this IDIQ. We anticipate issuing pre-advertisement information in October 2006 for the initial quantity of material to be quarried, shaped, and delivered in 2007 for the 2008 construction season. HistoryThe historic significance of the 52-mile Going-to-the-Sun Road is recognized by its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, designation as a National Historic Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1985, and designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1997. IntroductionEngineers have verified that the Going-to-the-Sun Road has sustained significant damage since it opened in 1932. The Going-to-the-Sun Road (GTSR) Rehabilitation Special Project is the culmination of much coordination and planning to facilitate the needed repairs. This web page is intended to facilitate the construction industry's access to information needed to evaluate and respond to the Request for Proposals. Western Federal Lands intends to solicit and award an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract that will encompass the road construction rehabilitation efforts in accordance with the Environmental Impact Statement and the Record of Decision. The anticipated ordering period of the IDIQ will be a base period of 2 years with 4 two-year option periods for a potential total ordering period of 10 years. The IDIQ enables the prime contractor to provide innovative approaches to construction, ensure traffic control methods meet the EIS constraints, and requires the prime contractor to utilize competitive methods for subcontracting efforts.
