For a BASIC explanation of Calculating
Earthwork, see below:
FIRST OF ALL YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- A Project Manager "earthwork run" or an earthwork input file similar
to the one shown in "Pavement Definitions, Cross Sections & Earthwork", Part II, Chapter 16, Pg. 46-47 in the Geopak 2001 Manuals.
You can find all of our "seed" input files in F:\Resource\Geopak\Inp.
The input file for running earthwork is EW_X10.INP, this one
works for English and Metric.
- A .DGN file containing the existing ground and proposed cross section
elements.
For more details about the requirements for successfully running earthwork,
see the "Rules" link above.
To calculate the earthwork volumes, click on the "Run Cross Sections"
icon in the Geopak "Cross Sections" tool box, or use the pulldowns
(shown below).
APPLICATIONS > GEOPAK ROAD > CROSS SECTIONS > Process Cross Sections

- Type in the earthwork input file name (such as EW_X10.inp) or select
the input file under FILES.
- Type in the earthwork output file to be created (such as ew.log).
- You can toggle on "pause on each section"
- Press APPLY.
- When the calculations are complete, open the .log file to review your results.
