GENERATE LEGAL DESCRIPTIONS

This is a very brief explanation of how to use this tool for describing horizontal alignments, (chains) and is assuming that you do not need to create your own special "Legal Description Library file".

FIRST OF ALL YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

  1. A GPK file.   This is the Coordinate Geometry database that contains many things........ but most importantly for this tool....it contains stored parcels and chains.


  2. One of the "Legal Description Library" files listed below. There are 2 versions available for each generation of Criteria/Level Libraries:
.X21 Generation of Criteria files/Level Libraries:
F:\V8_Resource\X_21\Standards\DDBS\Metric
  • WESTERN_METRIC.ldb
F:\V8_Resource\X_21\Standards\DDBS\English
  • WESTERN_US_CUSTOMARY.ldb
.X30 Generation of Criteria files/Level Libraries:
F:\V8_Resource\X_30\Standards\DDBS\Metric
  • WESTERN_METRIC.ldb
F:\V8_Resource\X_30\Standards\DDBS\English
  • WESTERN_US_CUSTOMARY.ldb

Open any MicroStation file, and Invoke the GEOPAK Legal Descrition Editor:

APPLICATIONS > GEOPAK ROAD > GEOMETRY > LEGAL DESCRIPTION

...or use the Tools icon below:

Set the desired Legal Description Library using the pulldowns, Library > Set Current Library/Style (as shown below):

This brings up the Set Current Library dialog (as shown below) and will most likely be set for the default library that comes with Geopak Road.   Click on the Set Current Library Select button to browse to a different location:

Browse to the location of either of WFL's Legal Description Library files, (both locations are shown at the top of this page) and press OK:

NOTE: For this example, we will use the Metric file located under the X_30 folder structrure, (as shown below):

The Set Current Library dialog should now appear (as shown below).   Select METRIC as the Current Style and press OK.

Using the pulldowns from the Legal Description Editor, select Insert > Line/Curve/Spiral Phrase, (as shown below):

This brings up the Insert Lines/Curves/Spiral dialog, as shown below.

NOTE:   Even If your chain has spirals and SCS curves, then simply highlight all the elements that make up your chain and press Insert, (as shown below):

An example of the output is shown below.   You may save this ASCII file by clicking on File > Save As and then open it with WORD to make any enhancements to the text.
