Here is a method for providing an electronic file (that can be uploaded to a data collector) for staking a variety of Right-of-Way types such as: CREATE RADIAL (ROW) STAKING NOTES... via 3PC
This application uses 3 Port Criteria technology. It was originally written by Chuck Lawson, Bentley Corp., and has since been modified and customized by Chuck and myself to comply with WFLHD's unique requirements.
- Proposed Right-of-Way
- Existing Right-of-Way
- Temporary Easements
- Permanent Easements
The credit here goes to Chuck. This is very cool!REQUIREMENTS:
Open your MicroStation file "3PC_ROW.dgn", (listed above as a requirement)
- A plan view file (specifically named 3PC_ROW.dgn) that contains the elements that represent the feature, such as Proposed Right-of-Way, Existing Right-of-Way, Temporary and/or Permanent Easements.
NOTES:
These elements MUST be drawn to WFLHD's standard symbologies.
This file must also contain your plotted chain.- Access to V8_Metric.ddb or V8_English.ddb located under:
.X21 Generation of Criteria files/Level Libraries:
F:\V8_Resource\X_21\Standards\DDBS\Metric F:\V8_Resource\X_21\Standards\DDBS\English
.X30 Generation of Criteria files/Level Libraries:
F:\V8_Resource\X_30\Standards\DDBS\Metric F:\V8_Resource\X_30\Standards\DDBS\English
- Access to wflhd_ascii_row.x, located under:
.X21 Generation of Criteria files/Level Libraries:
F:\V8_Resource\X_21\Standards\3PC\
.X30 Generation of Criteria files/Level Libraries:
F:\V8_Resource\X_30\Standards\3PC\
NOTES:
If you are connected to WFLHD's server.... you already have access to these 2 files mentioned above.
If running standalone, you will need assistance from me.- The GPK file that contains the chain for your design alignment.
- It would also help if you have Excel, (for easy sorting of the data later).
Invoke the Design and Computation Manager, (D&C Manager) and make sure that the path for specifying the .ddb is set correctly:
.X21 Generation of Criteria files/Level Libraries:
F:\V8_Resource\X_21\Standards\DDBS\Metric F:\V8_Resource\X_21\Standards\DDBS\English
.X30 Generation of Criteria files/Level Libraries:
F:\V8_Resource\X_30\Standards\DDBS\Metric F:\V8_Resource\X_30\Standards\DDBS\English
Double click on the "Category" 3PC.
Double click on the "Item" ROW Report ASCII Right of Way Report, (as shown below):
"Fit" your MicroStation view and double click on the item ROW Report ASCII Right of Way Report. The application will prompt for several pieces of information:NOW...... what just happened is, the application selected all of your ROW elements, (that comply with WFLHD's drafting standards) contained within 3PC_ROW.dgn and using the values shown in the dialogs above, calculated..... Stations, Offsets, Northings, Eastings, Descriptions and a variety of other information used by our surveyors... such as feature codes and point numbers. This is the value for searching left and right of the chain.
Key in your job number.
Key in your chain name.
Key in the increment for calculation.
".csv" extension works great with Excel.
Key in desired beginning station of calculations.
Select the beginning Region number.
Key in desired ending station of calculations.
Select the ending Region number.
HOW IT WORKS:
- The application first goes through at the "increment" that you told it, (in this example... 20 meter increment)
- The application then goes through and looks for "end points" or changes in widths.
- The application then goes through and calculates intersections of the "control points" (PS, PSC, PCS, etc....) with your various ROW lines.
WHAT YOU GET:
- Point number "text" drawn in 3PC_ROW.dgn at all of the intersections mentioned above.
- An ASCII file that contains all of the information. This file, (our example is named row_report.csv) can be opened in Excel and sorted/formatted as desired.
An example of the ASCII file is shown below:
The surveyors should be able to use the electronic copy of this file for uploading into their instruments.
SPECIAL NOTES FROM CHUCK, (once again... he wrote the application):
- Only ONE chain should be plotted in the drawing at a time.
- Do NOT plot stationing or tick marks. This just slows down processing.
