Construction Activities and Upcoming Work
The contract was awarded to Oftedal Construction.
The Woody Creek Staging Area (by the dump) is closed to public dumping. The new wood dump is at the old USFS dump on the south side of the highway near the Lulu Pass Road. Signs are installed to direct where dumping of wood is allowed. Watch for truck traffic when using the wood dump.
Clearing is complete on the project except for the Church Parcel. The Church Parcel will be cleared in May. Grubbing of the stumps and removal of the topsoil will begin May 19, 2008.
Waterline work will continue in June. Water line work is expected to be complete by the end of June.
Pipe culvert installation will resume on May 19th and will continue throughout the season.
The power lines have been relocated. The majority of the phone cable between Cooke City and Silver Gate has been moved. Work on the phone cable west of Silver Gate and along the remainder of the water line installation will continue in May and June.
Drilling, blasting and the crushing of gravel will begin in the quarry once plowed out. Colter Campground will be closed this summer while the crushing operation is ongoing. The trail to Lady of the Lake which originates near Colter Campground will also be closed this summer for safety reasons due to frequent blasting. Please use other trailheads to access the Lady of the Lake trail.
During the construction season in 2008, the asphalt will be removed and the earthwork operations will begin between Cooke City and the Mount Republic Chapel of Peace. Expect heavy truck traffic for the earthwork operations. Work will progress towards Silver Gate in the fall. Work in Silver Gate and towards YNP is likely to occur either in the fall of 2008 or in the early summer of 2009.
