Fall/Winter 2007Location
The Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Road is located north and east of the City of North Bend, which is approximately 30 miles east of Seattle Washington along I-90. The project will study an approximately 11-mile long section of road from milepost 1.36 to Middle Fork - Taylor River Trailhead at milepost 12.10.Description
The Western Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration is proposing to improve WA Forest Highway 29 (also known as King County Road 9899 and commonly referred to as Lake Dorothy Road). The project is in the process of developing a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document that will identify potential project impacts.Currently, the existing road is paved for the first 1.3 miles with the remaining portion being gravel and dirt. Roadway widths vary from 15 to 28 feet. As a Forest Highway, the road is also a gateway to 109,000 acres of land within the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie national Forest which is used primarily for public recreation purposes. Agency partners for the project include the Western Federal Lands Highway Division - Federal Highway Administration, the U.S. Forest Service, and King County.
This project will study multiple alternatives to improving the existing road. The study will look at a variety of potential impacts including those to plants, wildlife, cultural resources, and the potential increase in use. Public comment will be sought on the study and alternatives.
